Greenwell State Park

Greenwell State Park stretches across nearly 600 acres along the Patuxent River in Hollywood, Maryland, offering 10 miles of trails, two miles of waterfront, and a quieter, more natural alternative to the county's busier beaches. Visitors can hike through wooded and riverside terrain, launch a kayak or canoe from the on-site launch, cast a line from the accessible fishing pier, or simply picnic along the water. The land was donated to the state in 1971 by John Phillip Greenwell Jr. and Mary Wallace Greenwell, and today the park is run in partnership with the Greenwell Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to making outdoor recreation accessible to everyone.

That partnership is what makes Greenwell stand out - the park features a wheelchair-accessible kayak launch, accessible facilities at the Quarter Creek Pavilion and Rosedale Manor House, and an "all-inclusive" philosophy woven into everything the Foundation runs. Its equestrian program is a particular highlight, offering riding lessons, trail rides, and therapeutic horse experiences for all skill levels and abilities, with no experience required to get started.
